The Bay County Equestrian Team is part of the Interscholastic
Equestrian Association. It is available for middle school and
high school students wanting to expand their showing/riding
abilities. This team started in 2011 and was just a high school
team. In our first year we had a member, Lynda Mockler,
qualify for both regionals and zones in the varsity division
(the highest possible division you can show in). We also had
the honor of one of our team members, Katie Red, receiving
the sportsmanship award out of 16 teams. We received
another sportsmanship award; this time it was awarded to our
entire team in 2012. The third sportsmanship award was
awarded to Makayla Gentry in 2013. The success we had in
the first year led to expanding the team to also have a middle
school team. Last year we had 4 members on the high school
team and 4 members on the middle school team. We have had
team members qualify for Regionals and Zones every year.
We went to Wellington, FL to Nationals with team member
Cassie Gaasch in 2015, she was in the Varsity Division and
qualified in both her jumping 2'6" and flat classes. We have
been lucky to have a wonderful group of young riders every
year and their supportive parents who are very involved,
making it an incredible experience all the way around!
